4 Questions to Ask When Planning Your Honeymoon

Your honeymoon is one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole wedding process. You get to spend some quality one-on-one time with your new husband or wife. The most difficult part of the honeymoon planning process is answering the question “Where should we go?” Answer these four questions to get started.

How do we want to spend our honeymoon?

What exactly do you and your fiancé want do on your honeymoon? Are you the adventurous type and want to zip line through the jungle? Or do you prefer to spend your time relaxing on the beach with a good book? Maybe a little of both? Make a wish list or things you want to see or do on your honeymoon and show it to your travel agent so they can assist you in picking the perfect location.

What are our budget and time restraints?

Knowing your budget before you start planning. You don’t want to fall in love with a destination and then find out that the airfare alone will absorb your whole budget. Also knowing how long you can spend on your honeymoon. Can you only take a certain amount of time off work, or do you have some wiggle room in how long you are gone?

When do you want to leave?

Are you going to speed off to the airport the morning after the wedding? Maybe you want to take a day or two to relax at home to unwind from the wedding? Remember, the wedding is going to be exhausting and you may want to spend a couple of days resting. You can even wait a couple of weeks to go on your honeymoon if that’s what works best with your schedule. Also consider the best time to visit your destination.

What is the weather like this time of year?

Be sure to find out what the destination’s weather patterns are. If you want to go to the Caribbean, you may want to stay away from September and October to avoid hurricane season. In the winter you may want to avoid Europe and Canada as the temperatures can drop drastically.

Each bungalow features glass bottom floors, a private infinity pool, direct ladder access to the ocean, an outdoor shower, an oversized deck, a Jacuzzi fit for two, and offers special amenities like in-bungalow breakfast served daily, and pre-dinner drinks. In addition to the in suite amenities these suites offer exclusive access to an overwater restaurant and an overwater spa.

The best part about these over-the-water bungalow suites are the flights! From the East Coast, you can be enjoying your suite approximately 4 hours after leaving home. That is much better 24+ hours to get to Bora Bora! Especially if you only have a short amount of time to spend on your trip!

Send out your “Save the Dates” early so they have plenty of time to save money and vacation days. A year in advance is customary for a destination wedding.

Not only does booking early make it possible for you to inform your guests, but you will also have many more options to choose from. Choose your hotel, package, and rooms early in order to secure the location and date you want.

Do a site visit.

Plan to visit your wedding location in order to experience all it has to offer before your big day. See the different ceremony and reception areas, and the meet with the on-site wedding coordinator. This trip is usually about 3 days just enough time for you to get a feel of the place.

Dress Appropriately.

You may have always dreamed of yourself wearing a huge ball gown with a long train on your wedding day, but that might not be realistic for a beach wedding. Keep in mind your location’s climate. Something like chiffon, organza, or tulle would be more comfortable in a warm weather climate.

Don’t forget the honeymoon!

Some couples treat the week of their wedding as their honeymoon too, but you may find that you want to get away from the crowd and spend time together. After your ceremony you can leave the resort to travel to a different one. You could have your wedding in Cancun, but decide to move to a more peaceful area like Riviera Maya for your honeymoon. They’re very close to each other, but you will feel like you’ve made it to a brand new destination. Alternatively, you could choose a whole new destination for your honeymoon. There are endless options and the choice is yours!
